Old news that I've been sitting on for a while (in other words, the Jefferson 1 has probably been free for a while now). Still, worth a post because of the sheer insanity of the cops in this case.
Some DC area libertarians went at midnight to dance at Jefferson’s memorial on his birthday, wearing ipods so as to be quiet (as an aside, I'd like to think Jefferson would have approved). Then the cops bust it up for “creating noise” and actually arrest one of the girls. Pretty amazing. While the kids seemed maybe a little amateurish and unprepared, the behavior of the cops is just plain stupid. Most absurd, the one cop takes the arrested girl's purse, and the second cop tells one of the dancers that he'll arrest him if he swears again; at which point the young man points out: "I was repeating what you said." Here's the link to the youtube page.
Here's Acts 1, 2, and 3. There's one or two instances of foul language (one of shock at the arrest, the other conversation with the cop), as a warning.

The Truth: Often Painful and Unpleasant
I've not written on the topic in a while and have generally blogged on Islam at the American Federalist blog. I think that there's a good reason for having done so (wider readership than my personal page) before, and a good reason for posting this here now (it has less to do with the AFB and more to do with my own personal opinions).
I'm going to post a link to Geert Wilders' film, Fitna.
I've watched it and wouldn't recommend it for young viewers or people who can't handle difficult images. In the interest of sparing viewers an unpleasant surprise, there are graphic images of human death in the video; this is the real thing and it made me flinch. There will be a warning when you click through before proceeding. There will also be a Dutch and English version of the film; be sure to look for the English version before getting started.
I've watched it, as I said, and I debated all day yesterday about posting it. I concluded that it is important to be reminded of the coming conflict with Islam. Wilders wrote in an op-ed piece:
Here's the link to the movie.
Wilders is one of the few politicians discussing with seriousness a policy of separationism; an idea that has been advanced at VFR, among others. These are difficult conversations to have. Our American tradition of religious tolerance - warped into political correctness by cultural marxism - makes it extremely difficult not only to verbalize the threat posed by Islam but to be taken seriously by the public at large. Many people will speak the truth and be thrown under the bus. People will continue to die in the conflict between freedom and tyranny, and still we won't act. We may suffer another 9/11 and still mute our response. People who should know better will condemn "extremism" "radical Islam" and "Islamofascism" with a straight face, and doom us to further suffering.
The bitter irony, of course, is that such terms are incorrect, and spoken for political purposes; they are, then, politically incorrect, but not in the meaning of the term we've been brainwashed into accepting. It is this political incorrectness that we've got to beware of; and of course, the continuing growth of leftism and liberalism in this country will only exacerbate our suffering.
What can we do? Support people like Wilders. Learn about that peculiar faith, and share that knowledge with others. Write about it and talk about it. And never forget the truth about the conflict we're facing.

I have been proclaiming this for years: A moderate Islam does not exist. For those who don't want to believe me: read the speech which the Italian writer Oriana Fallaci who alas, died last year held in New York on November 28th 2007 when she received a prize for her heroic resistance to Islamo facism and her struggle for freedom:
"A moderate Islam does not exist. It does not exist because there is no difference between Good Islam and Bad Islam. There is Islam and that is the end of it. Islam is the Koran, and nothing other than the Koran. And the Koran is the Mein Kampf of a religion that desires to eliminate others - non–Muslims - who are called infidel dogs, and inferior creatures. Read the Koran, that Mein Kampf, yet again. In whatever version and you will see that the evil which the sons of Allah against us and themselves has perpetrated comes from that book."(Oriana Fallaci "The Force of Reason" post-script page 305 February 2006)

Hannity and Colmes
She's got a point, namely: that guy would be so bad for conservatives, that they'd be better off fighting actual opposition from the other party than constantly getting thrown under the bus by someone who is nominally from the same party.

Happy Day
Green Bay just lost. New York gets a rematch with the Patriots in the Super Bowl. All is right in the world.
And no, the Mannings are nothing like the Bush family, so it's OK to be happy about Eli getting to the big game.

I'm Going YouTube Crazy
I love YouTube. What's great about it is that you can find just about anything at all: movie clips, comedy routines, and your favorite guitarist rocking out.
